It’s that time of year again when the grackles and starlings show up, invade feeders, and scare other birds away. Luckily, we have some tips to at least help reduce their numbers at your feeders! These birds really like sunflower seeds and peanuts. It’s a good time to switch to feeding seeds they don’t like or are just too small for them. One option is a seed blend called “Squirrel Free.” It will still make your cardinals, finches, sparrows and chickadees very happy, but the grackles, starlings and squirrels really don’t like it. There are also some specific feeders that can slow them down too. Caged feeders, niger seed feeders with tiny holes, upside down suet feeders, and some our weight sensitive Squirrel Busters. The bigger Squirrel Busters can be adjusted to be very sensitive, so they also close with the weight of these birds. Stop by the shop soon and we’ll share even more tips!
