Garden Gate: Episode 144-Birdbaths

Providing birds with water is an important part of any garden. Both for drinking and for bathing. Birds are especially attracted to moving water, so if you can add a dripper, spraying hose or water wiggler, you`ll attract birds more quickly to the bath. In addition moving water prevents mosquitoes from laying their larvae in the water.

During this episode I share some ideas on types of bird baths and placement of the bath within your garden. Fountains and ponds are also a great option but require more work and commitment to keep them clean and operating properly. Something as simple as a bowl with water can keep a few birds happy. If the surface is shallow enough, butterflies and bees will even use a bath for drinking.
