On this episode of the Garden Gate I feature a favourite artist of mine. Charley Harper was born in 1922 and died in fairly recently in 2007. He created art until the day he died.
He was considered an American modernist artist and his style was called minimal realism. Being born on a farm greatly influenced his work as you see many animals and birds in his work.
He studied at the art institute of Cincinnati and within the first week of his studies Harper met his future wife Edie McKee who also became a successful artist.
He illustrated a number of books and posters all which were nature oriented including “The artic world”, Bathurst inlet, Florida keys, Michigan Audubon society plus a series for the Cincinnati nature centre.
