Junior Achievement (Northern and Eastern Ontario), 2026
Brenda Ibey of Avant-Garden Shop one of nine inductees

It’s beyond humbling to win a hall of fame award for my business (and in such good company) but all the more so to have been nominated by people integral to important parts of my life. And to be steadfastly proud of being a downtown business owner in Peterborough.
Since winning this honour, I learned that I was officially nominated by my former business partner Dave McLeod. Letters of support were written by David McNab (who I’m working with toward relocating a Syrian family here) and Pam Chellew from the Lakefield horticultural society, where I’ve volunteered for more than 50 years.
The announcement was made in January and the official induction will be at the end of May. An announcement to the community happens at the Peterborough Petes hockey game on February 12, 2026 along with a brief video screening.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love supporting local organizations and charities and artists. I’ve mentored young business women and co-operated with other businesses in countless fundraising and promotional campaigns and community-minded efforts. My philosophy is to cooperate and encourage rather than compete.
