Oh, Canada!

How many provinces and territories have been featured in artists’ work in the Avant-Garden shop?

We asked our newsletter readers to guess how many provinces and territories are represented by artists whose work we have carried over the years in our Avant-Garden shop.

Take a guess and read about some of our unique artists (or scroll down to the bottom if you’re impatient) to see the answer.

Leading up to Canada Day, we want to celebrate a few impressive Canadian creators:

ALBERTA: CRYSTAL DRIEDGER

Crystal Driedger is an artist and illustrator based in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Many of her pieces in our shop are beautiful enamel pins and elegant resin magnets, pictured. Many of Crystal’s pieces are inspired by memories and imaginings from a childhood spent in the forests and fields of her family farm.

NOVA SCOTIA: JENNIFER AND PAUL ARBOUR

Jennifer & Paul Arbour are the creators behind Wood Designs by Arbour based in Nova Scotia. The process of inlaying wood, called intarsia, dates back to the 7th century and what makes their products so fascinating is the natural wood colours; no paint or stain is used on any of the lovely pieces they build, often mounted on stones collected from Canada’s famous Bay of Fundy.

ONTARIO:

Wendy Stanwick spent a career making art with wood and clay until she moved to Northern Ontario and fell in love with the stone of the Canadian Shield. Taking thin slices from core samples pulled by prospectors, Wendy adds inspired embellishments  and creates stunning pieces of jewellery, literally creating A Slice of the North unique designs. In 2010 Wendy was contracted by the Canadian Federal Government to create accreditation gifts for the First Ladies of the World who came when Canada hosted both the G8 & G20 Summits.

These are only a few of the Canadian artists and creators featured in our shop.

We are based in Peterborough in the beautiful Kawarthas cottage-country region of south-central Ontario and love to support Canadian artists, suppliers and businesses.

Back to our Question: How many provinces and territories have been represented by artists, suppliers and businesses in our shop?

Answer: Avant-Garden currently carries work from artists representing 9 provinces and 2 territories.
