On today’s episode Brenda is talking about some of the specialized bird seed, blends, and the feeders you can use to attract certain birds. The American Goldfinch is one of our favourite year-round birds. To keep them happy we have a blend of their most loved seeds called NiChip. It includes Niger seed and chips of hulled sunflower. We have a variety of special feeders with tiny holes which best hold this small seed.
A few more of our year-round residents, chickadees, nuthatches, blue jays and woodpeckers love peanuts! Our hulled peanuts are a tasty high energy snack for these birds. We have a number of different peanut feeders in the store, even ones that keep the squirrels out!
And our most well-known resident, the Northern Cardinal, is one many people recognize and want to attract. These birds love Safflower! As natural ground feeders, a feeder that is easy to access, helps these birds eat easier. They have smaller necks and have a hard time with stick-like perches.
