GARDEN GATE: Episode 290 – Keeping out the squirrels! (April 12, 2024)

In the last episode Brenda talked about keeping grackles and starlings away from feeders. This week is about keeping the squirrels off. The Brome Squirrel Buster feeders are really the best option. These are triggered to close with the weight of a squirrel. Another great option is to put a baffle on your pole. These should sit on your pole about 4.5 to 5 feet from the ground. Additionally, it is ideal to have your pole far enough away from trees, decks, fences or railings to avoid a jump from the side.

We carry a variety of caged feeders that only the small birds can get into, as well as larger cages you can put different feeders into. Cardinals however don’t like to use a caged feeder. Niger seed tube feeders are a great option as well. The holes are very tiny so squirrels can’t get their mouths into them.

The Brome Squirrel Busters and the Aspects feeders are quality products made in the USA, and have a great warranty against squirrel damage. Stop by the shop and we can help you figure out what will work for you!
