Garden Gate: Episode 170-Pollinator gardens

Carlotta James from Three Sisters Natural Landscapes (http://www.3sisters.ca/) is my guest on this episode to talk about pollinators and pollinator gardens. Pollinators are very important for our environment. Without them we would have much less food available to us. It is estimated that one of every three bites of food depend on pollinators.

The Three Sisters, design and build pollinator gardens and also offer education on the topic. These gardens not only attract butterfly’s but hummingbirds as well. What could be better than seeing these lovely delicate creatures in your gardens!

In 2019 Carlotta wears another hat and is organizing The Monarch Ultra. A team of film-makers, runners, and pollinator advocates will be telling the story of the flight of the monarch butterfly as seen through the eyes of ultra-runners who will run the same distance of 4,300 km from southern Ontario to central Mexico in the fall of 2019. The Monarch Ultra is the first attempt to run across North America (Canada, United States & Mexico) in order to raise awareness of monarch butterflies who make the migratory journey every year, and whose populations are in decline. Their 47-day running adventure will invite runners to traverse wild landscapes as well populated urban areas while building camaraderie, overcoming adversity, and sharing a singular adventure with monarch butterflies. http://www.themonarchultra.com/
