It’s really wonderful to watch the birds.  Their beautiful colours and sweet songs relax and help you to appreciate the nature all around you.  Often times elderly who live alone at home much of the time can spend hours watching and being entertained by our feathered friends. A great way to keep the mind active too!

Using different styles of feeders you can attract cardinals, chickadees, American goldfinch, woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Pine Siskins etc.

But, when the squirrels move in and take over the feeders, the fun is over. Unless you’re a “Squirrel-ologist” and enjoy studying these crafty rodents.

We can help!  Whether it’s by using only squirrel proof feeders such as the Squirrel Buster Plus (see episode 1 and 78) or setting up a squirrel proof bird feeding station, you can foil the squirrels.  If you set up your bird feeding station properly, it will be squirrel proof. But you have to keep a number of things in mind. Squirrels can jump up 4-5 feet and can launch themselves sideways 10-12 feet and sometimes even as far as 15 feet.  If you have a wide open space, away from trees, decks and clotheslines, then you can set up a squirrel proof bird feeding station.
