It’s so cold outside! Now is the time to feed the birds hulled sunflower seeds, hulled peanuts and suet! Fresh really matters, which is why the suet we carry is made and delivered to us every week. We have a variety of different ‘flavours’ containing treats like fruit, mealworms and lots of nuts and seeds. We also have a vegan one that is made with plant oils and peanuts instead of the typical beef suet. Many box store suet cakes are mostly filler seeds like wheat, and have been stored for a very long time. Sometimes people think about trying to make their own suet using bacon fat but this is really harmful to the birds. There is a lot of salt and preservatives in bacon fat which can be very toxic for our feathered friends. Some people will also go to a butcher for suet, but the issue here is that it doesn’t last as long before it goes rancid. Our suet is rendered so it will last and not go bad. However, we do carry a plain suet which is great to add your own ingredients to!
